Union rules in film and TV production: contracts and collective agreements

By Erika Synowiec

On every shoot or project, different union rules apply, and contracts must strictly comply with the corresponding collective bargaining agreements.

Who sets the requirements

Organizations such as SATSAID (television), SUTEP (live entertainment) and the Argentine Actors’ Association set specific requirements that vary depending on each team member’s role and level.

What happens if a contract is not adapted

Over the years at the firm, I have seen how a poorly adapted contract or an oversight of union requirements can trigger:

  • Suspended shoots.
  • Operational delays.
  • Unexpected cost overruns that jeopardize the viability of the project.

At Synowiec & Asociados we help every production comply with the applicable rules and make sure each contract is properly adapted to union requirements.
